Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of Cortex Acanthopanacis Senticosi on the collagen-induced arthritis in the lewis rats. and we infere the effects of Cortex Acanthopanacis Senticosi on the rheumatoid arthritis in the human body.

Methods: We have investigated the lewis rats which had the collagen-induced arthritis as the experimental group and as the control group as well, but the normal group hadn`t been treated. we feed Cortex Acanthopanacis Senticosi only to an experimental group. And then effect on the body weight, paw edema volume, thickness of tarsal joint, the volume of TNF-¥á, IL-1¥â, and histopathological changes of tibiotarsal joints in the lewis rats were measured.

Results and Conclusions:
1. The paw edema volume of an experimental group were lower than the control group with statistically significant at 15days after treatment(P-value<0.05).
2. The tarsal joint of an experimental group were lower than the control group with statistically significant at 10days after treatment(P-value<0.05).
3. The volume of TNF-¥á at an experimental group were lower than the control group with statistically significant at 15days after treatment(P-value<0.001).
4. The volume of IL-1¥â at an experimental group were lower than control group with statistically significant at 15days after treatment(P-value<0.001).
5. An experimental group and a control group were showed ankylosing osteoarthritis, but an experimental group compared with the control group, alleviated in the fibrous ankylosis, destruction of articular cartilage and destruction of subchondral bony tissue.
